Cost savings, although not a primary concern for most people, can be significant. A normal 
wedding cake can run between 4-6 dollars for a single slice. Whereas the wedding cupcake costs 1-2 dollars, if you buy them in. As you can see the wedding cupcake prices are significantly lower than the traditional cakes.
Of course, it can be even cheaper, and loads more fun, if you make them yourselves.
